Welcome to the e-shop of the Czech representative of the direct producer of premium extra virgin olive oil from Crete - the "Agricultural Cooperative Zakros". Zakros premium extra virgin olive oil - harvest 2024 with an acidity of 0.47% - is a very smooth, fruity oil of medium intensity, well balanced, medium spicy and bitter, with a harmonious taste and golden green colour. It has a unique composition, high content of polyphenols (464 mg/kg), minerals, unsaturated fats and vitamins E and K. It is an excellent oil for universal use in hot and cold cooking.

Dne 24.8.2024 jsem zaplatila pro vnučku 1 l oleje za 589 kč včetně dopravy a dodnes ho nemá. Číslo objednávky je 2554 . Nevím kde je zádrhel, platba z mého účtu odešla na váš účet č.35-118820207/0100. Vnučce jsem poslala mailem doklad o zaplacení.

Tomáši, děkujeme za názor. Náš olivový olej je ze sklizně, která probíhá od začátku listopadu do poloviny ledna - proto tomu říkáme sklizeň 2024, ale máte pravdu mohli bychom tomu říkat sklizeň 23/24 🙂

Již potřetí jsem si vzal pro svou rodinu tento olej. Velmi mi vyhovuje. Je výborný a občas ho ochutnám, pro jeho lahodnost. Celá rodina s ním vaříme. Vyhovuje mi na SCD dietu. Například si z něj dělám i majonézu do svých diernívh pokrmů. Jsem velmi spokojen.

Vážená paní Zdenko, alergie na olivovník je velmi vzácná, o alergii na olivový olej však nejsou žádné informace, pouze že alergie na olivovník neznamená alergii na kvalitní extra panenský olivový olej. Naopak, kvalitní extra panenský olivový olej je velmi přínosný pro zdraví, přesně jako je ten náš - Zakros. Rádi vám zašleme vzorek na vyzkoušení. Zároveň doporučujeme ještě konzultaci s lékařem.

In Crete, we consume an average of 20 litres of olive oil per capita per year, as we use virtually no other oil or fat in the kitchen.

PREMIUM EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OILS WITH MINIMAL ACIDITY HAVE A HIGH SMOKE POINT

(depending on acidity, approx. 210°C - 220°C), i.e. high enough above the temperature for frying food (180°C).
THE SMOKE POINT IS THE TEMPERATURE AT WHICH THE OIL BEGINS TO OVERHEAT AND UNWANTED HARMFUL SUBSTANCES ARE RELEASED.
The smoke point of olive oils varies according to quality - the lower the acidity of the oil, the higher the smoke point.
THE TEXTURE OF PREMIUM OLIVE OILS DOES NOT UNDERGO SIGNIFICANT CHANGES DURING HEAT TREATMENT

OLIVE OIL HAS STRONG ANTI-INFLAMMATORY EFFECTS

This is probably one of the main reasons why it has such positive effects on human health. This is due to its high content of powerful antioxidants and minerals. Olive oil, with its minimal acidity, thus helps to de-acidify the body, nourishes cells with high-quality vegetable fat and prevents them from being damaged by free radicals, which is one of the main risk factors for cancer. A diet high in quality olive oil makes a major contribution to reducing cardiovascular disease. It prevents the oxidation of LDL cholesterol and has a positive effect on a number of other risk factors, including general ageing.

"It is given as a percentage and indicates how much fatty acid is contained in the olive oil. Therefore, acidity becomes a basic and essential indicator of olive oil quality".

HOW DOES ACIDITY FORM?

The main component of olive oil is the so-called "triglycerides", which are protected from oxygen by the olive's tough skin. When the skin is broken during ripening, air enters the olive, oxidation occurs and acidity rises. Although acidity is slightly predetermined by the olive variety and the growing area, it is also dependent on the weather and the presence of pests. If the humidity is higher in a given year, the pests will multiply, they will impale the olives more, which will start to oxidise and the acidity will increase. Our olive oil has low acidity precisely because the Zakros area is known for its dry and hot climate, in which pests do not thrive.

WHY DON'T YOU FIND AN ACIDITY FIGURE ON THE PACKAGING SOLD IN THE SUPERMARKET?

Although EU legislation does not explicitly prohibit the indication of acidity on packaging, it does not recommend it due to the possible change in acidity between now and the expiry date of the oil. If the acidity value differs from the information on the packaging, the manufacturer can be fined. In the case of quality olive oils sold on e-shops, the acidity of the specific oil can be found in the description of the oil when purchasing.

You simply cannot buy quality olive oil in Czech or European chain stores. Most of them are overpriced blends of oils of dubious quality and poor taste from EU countries. Such olive oil is not really a miracle for hot cuisine, and it does not give a great taste to cold food either. TOURISTICALLY LITTLE TOUCHED, BUT BEAUTIFUL REGION OF ZAKROS
